A Brooklyn, NY based singer-songwriter, Hillary Powell’s Folk/Americana story-telling has been compared to that of Nanci Griffith, Lori McKenna, and Patty Griffin. After touring as an independent artist in folk clubs and coffeehouses across the country, she took time off from performing to focus on writing songs. For the past few years she has been raising a family and working at Covenant House, an organization that provides housing and services to youth experiencing homelessness.

Hillary Powell’s most recent EP, The Pier, released in 2024, was produced by Chris Bonner with contributions from the Bones Trio:

Chris Bonner, bass, production, background vocals — a Bronx-based bassist/multi-instrumentalist and producer who can be heard on hundreds of recordings, in films, and on TV.
Rob Ritchie, guitars, mandolin, pedal steel — a Canadian-born, NYC-based guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who has collaborated with Dolores O’Riorden of The Cranberries among others.

Zack Eldridge, drums, percussion

Singer/songwriters Jeannie Goodman and Ellie Powell contribute harmonies.

Hillary says, “When putting the EP together, I could see most of these songs reveal a longing for a fixed identity, something that is frustratingly elusive.  In more than one song, this longing is set against the backdrop of the mostly ‘unsung’ emotional labor women perform day in and day out.”

Hillary performs solo with her acoustic guitar and with members of the Bones trio.
